Killing of people now much easier: Ershad

Condemning the killing of four people in police firing in Tangail, Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad yesterday said now killing people is much easier than killing a fly, reports UNB. “People only staged demonstrations protesting the assault on a mother in front of her son. Why were bullets sprayed on them? What did they do? Did they open fire or throw bombs or grenades? They did not do that,” he said. Talking to reporters at his Rangpur residence Palli Nibas, the Jatiya Party chairman further said, “Killing people has now become a daily affair and killing a man is now much easier than killing a fly. These incidents are happening for lack of good governance in the country.”
On Friday, police fired on local people at Kalihati in Tangail as they were demonstrating against the alleged assault on a woman in front of her son, killing four people and injuring many others. Ershad, also a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the government did not do the right thing by announcing the results of MBBS and BDS admission tests as it was ware of question paper leak. He also demanded the government retake the medical and dental admission tests cancelling the announced results. “The meritorious students will get demoralised, if exams are not taken again.” The former military ruler also extended his support to public university teachers’ demand for a separate pay scale, urging the government to meet their demand. “Their (teachers’) demand is justified. The government should resolve the problem as soon as possible through discussion with them.”
