Lohagara fire station not yet commissioned

Although the infrastructure of Lohagara fire station was completed about nine months ago it has remained inoperative for want of vehicles and manpower. Uncertainty still hangs over its operation in near future. This has disappointed the inhabitants of Lohagara as their long cherished desire of a fire station in the upazila has not been fully materialised. Sub-divisional engineer of Public Works Department SM Golam Kader said Lohagara Fire Station has been built on 33 decimal of land at Kachubaria village by the side of Lohagara-Narail road. The construction work has been completed with an estimated expenditure of Tk1.75 crores. While contacted Deputy Director of Narail Fire Service Amirul Islam said all necessary things excepting workforce and vehicles have been received. Launching of the fire station is impossible without workforce and vehicles, he said. “We have written to the authorities concerned for necessary vehicles and workforce”, he added. Jahangir Hossain, an inhabitant of Kachbaria village, of the district, said the lone fire station of the district is situated in Narail district town. If a fire incident occurs in any remote place of Lohagara upazila, people living there become panicky and helpless. A fire station is a crying need of four lakh people of the upazila.
