New gold medal introduced at DU
A new gold medal titled ‘Faizunnessa-Kabiruddin Rahmani Memorial Foundation Gold Medal’ has been introduced at the Department of Geography & Environment of Dhaka University (DU). Chairperson of Geography and Environment Department of DU Professor Hafiza Khatun handed over a cheque for Tk 5 lakh to DU Treasurer M Kamal Uddin on Monday at the vice-chancellor's office to introduce the gold medal in memories of her parents.
DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, former chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment M Abdur Rob, Professor AQM Mahbub, others faculty members and family members of the donor were present on this occasion. Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BS (Hons) final examination from the department will be awarded the medal. Prof Arefin thanked the donor for introducing this gold medal at university and hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation. He urged the alumni of the university as well as the rich people of the society to come forward with their helping hands for promoting education and research activities in the country.
Sports science dept, gymnasium open at CU
CHITTAGONG: The authority of Chittagong University (CU) on Monday opened the newly-constructed Gymnasium and the newly-launched ‘Physical Education & Sports Science’ department here. CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury formally inaugurated the gymnasium as well as the new department at a simple ceremony held at CU Gymnasium Hall. The VC, in his inaugural speech, said the university authority constructed the modern gymnasium with a view to facilitating the students with sports and physical exercise. "Besides, the newly launched Physical Education & Sports Science Department would help students play their roles in national as well as international sports arena after completion of their education", the VC said. CU Registrar (acting) Mohammad Kamrul Huda presided over the function while VC of Moulana Bhasani Science and Technology University, Tangail Alauddin, CU Arts Faculty Dean Mohammad Sekandar Chowdhury, CU Teachers' Association President Mohammad Abul Monsur and General Secretary Kazi SM Khosrul Alam Quddusi, CU syndicate member Sultan Ahmed and CU proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury, among others, addressed the function.
Roundtable on food adulteration at DU
A roundtable meeting on ‘Food Adulteration and Remedy was held at the Alumni Floor of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday. Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Nurjahan Begum Mukta, MP, Awami League Advisory Council Member Professor Sultana Safi and Professor of DU Nutrition and Food Science Department Dr Sharmin Rumi attended it, among others. The speakers demanded for taking necessary measures to stop food adulteration.
