Mohammed Abu Taleb of Bangladesh finished 28th in the men’s 400metre sprint at the Asian Games in Jakarta yesterday. Taleb clocked 50.97 seconds.
30 runners entered for the race with Taleb finishing second last as No 30 athlete Khadivar Ali of Iran did not turn up. Ashyekhan Akhyt of Mongolia finished behind Taleb with a timing of 51.22 sec. Out of 29 24 athletes qualified for the second round heats.
Meanwhile Bangladesh basketball team suffered two defeats in a row in the 3X3 event. They first went down to Chinese Taipei 21-8 and then suffered another crushing 21-7 defeat to South Korea in two group matches.
The Bangladesh Olympic Association surprised the country’s sports fans by selecting the basketball 3X3 basketball team which was introduced in the country in the recent past.
Bangladesh men’s hockey team will take on Thailand today in their fourth match and if they can win the match then they will take part in a play-off for fifth-sixth place as Bangladesh will face a powerful Pakistan in their last Pool-B match on August 28.
Bangladesh beat Oman 2-1 in their opening pool match and then crushed Kazakhstan 6-1 in their second match before tasting their first defeat o Malaysia 7-0 in their third match.
