Three notable films to be screened today

Three notable films by three prominent filmmakers--Ehtesham, Tanvir Mokammel and Giasuddin Selim--will be screened today at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital. The films are being screened in the ongoing 16-day ‘Bangladesh Film Festival 2017’.
Ehtesham’s film ‘Pitch Dhala Path’ will be screened today at 3pm, while Tanvir Mokammel’s feature film ‘Jibondhuli’ will be screened at 5:15pm and Giasuddin Selim’s romantic tragedy film ‘Monpura’ will be screened at 7:30pm at the same venue of BSA and as well as 63 Districts Shilpakala Academy across the country.
Written by Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury and directed by veteran filmmaker Ehtesham, ‘Pitch Dhala Path’ is a drama film which saw its release in 1968.
The cast of the film includes the late legendary actor Razzak, actress Bobita, Maya Hazarika, Tejen Chakraborty and others.
On the other hand, ‘Jibondhuli’ is a feature film written and directed by Tanvir Mokammel. The film depicts the story of a drummer and his family during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Jibonkrishna Das, a poor lower-caste Hindu drummer, was eking out a living with his wife and two children. Being lower-caste, Jibon was subjected to all kinds of humiliation both from his Muslim neighbours as well as by the upper caste Hindus. When Pakistan army occupied Jibon's village, Jibon along with others, tried to flee to India. The story of the film moves from this point.
The cast of the film includes Shatabdi Wadud, Jyotika Jyoti, Ramendu Majumdar, Wahida Mollick Jolly, Chitralekha Guho and many more.
Written and directed by renowned director Giasuudin Selim, ‘Monpura’ is one of the highest grossing Bangladeshi films. The film won five awards at the 34th Bangladesh National Film Awards. This is a romantic tragedy film set in rural Bangladesh.
In the story of the film, a housemaid is killed by a local landlord's son. Sonai, the protagonist of the story, takes the blame for the murder to save his landlord's mentally ill son, and is marooned in an island named Monpura. There the servant comes across a fisherman's daughter and the story of the film moves forward from this point.
The cast of the film includes Chanchal Chowdhury as Sonai, Farhana Mili, Mamunur Rashid, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Dilara Zaman and many more. l
