Light showers are expected to start today and continue till May 15 or 16, coinciding with the beginning of the Bangla month of Jaishtha next Monday when it becomes hot and humid again, Met office sources said yesterday. The rains will not be too heavy, sources said.
The rains today, which are likely to spread mostly over the northern region, will be induced by the shifting of the trough of westerly low pressure over the Indian state of Bihar and adjoining areas, moving from West Bengal but leaving its trail over the North Bay of Bengal.

Jessore recorded the highest temperature at 36.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which rose to 37.2 degrees Celsius yesterday.
