Titans to lock horns in key match today

Winners to consolidate position in title race
Sports Reporter

Even though the past aura has been absence for a long, the match between traditional archrivals Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club today at BKSP-4 ground would be important for both teams to tighten the noose in the point table.

In terms of points, both teams are in the second spot with 10 points along with Prime Bank Cricket Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club but in terms of run rate, Abahani are in second slot behind the league leaders Gazi Group Cricketers who are yet to loss any match so far after the seven rounds. Mohammedan is in the fourth spot.
Who will win the match between Abahani and Mohammedan, would keep its second position intact. In terms of form, the two teams have been in similar position with Mohammedan winning four matches at a stretch while Abahani gained the confidence by beating Prime Bank Cricket Club.
“There is nothing like big or small matches or big or small teams in this season. So it’s the match which we have to win at any cost to earn two points,” said Abahani captain Mohammad Mithun.
“It’s good that we have been in form and beat a team like Prime Bank which are stronger than us. It will give us the confidence ahead of the match against Mohammedan.”
When asked whether he had any special feeling about the match because of the past rivalry of those two teams, Mithun was realistic.
“When I started playing cricket, I didn’t see many spectators coming in the stadium in the match between Abahani and Mohammedan. So honestly there is no special feeling though I heard many things about the rivalry. In the past I was in the Mohammedan tent. I saw there is nothing like in the players also.”
Left arm spinner Taijul Islam whose sublime form kept Mohammedan on winning-track said the match is crucial in deciding the championship fight.
“Who will win, will be in advantageous position to strong its position to give a fight to clinch the title. There is long way to go in the league but this is an important match to get the momentum,” he said.
“We have been in great form and simply we want to continue it.”
In the day’s other matches, Legends of Rupganj will take on Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium while Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will lock horns with Victoria Sporting Club at BKSP-3 ground.
