Higher Secondary Stipend Project (HSSP) of Education Ministry today signed a Memorandum of Understan-ding (MoU) with state-owned telecom operator Teletalk to distribute mobile phone SIM cards free of cost among the stipend-awarded students recently, reports BSS.
HSSP Director Shyama Prasad Bepari and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Kazi Golam Quddus signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at the ministry's conference room in capital, said an official release.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim were present in the MoU signing ceremony.
Speaking at the function, the education minister said the main objective of giving stipend is to help the poor students, particularly girls, continue their education.
Ten percent of male students and 40 percent of female students of Higher Secondary classes are getting the stipend, he added.
Tarana Halim said a total of 2,23,000 SIM cards will be distributed among the students under the MoU.
Education Ministry's Secondary and Higher Education Division Additional Secretary Mahiuddin Khan, Post and Telecommunications Ministry Additional Secretary Azizul Islam and Director General of Secondary and Higher Education Directorate Dr SM Wahiduzzaman also addressed the function.
Technical and Madrasah Division acting Secretary Alamgir and senior officials of the ministry were present in the function, the release added.
