Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) Chairman Moin Uddin said extortion by REB contractors was totally unacceptable.
“It was totally unacceptable when extortion allegations brought against certain REB contractors and their accomplices by its clients were proved to be true,” the REB chairman said during a views exchange meet with contractors to discuss strategies to combat corruption in electric power supply held at the REB headquarters in Tongi recently, said a press release.
The government’s development initiatives were largely impeded by the corruption of contractors of BREB, the REB chairman added.
He said the board will blacklist any contractor if it is involved in any irregularity.
The board supplied electric power to 37 lakh clients in the last fiscal year and 30 lakh more in the current fiscal year.
REB members, its chief engineer, project director, director and other high ranking officials, among others, were present at the meeting.
