Tribute to music maestro Mihir Nandi

CHITTAGONG: People from all walks of life, including political leaders, literary and cultural activists, journalists, civil society members, fans and family members, paid their last tributes to legendary Tagore exponent, music maestro and eminent freedom fighter Mihir Nandi at city's Shaheed Minar today, reports BSS.
Mihir, a distinguished artiste of the then Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, was given a guard of honour soon after his body was taken to the Shaheed Minar premises around 11am.
Mihir Nandi, precursor of classical music in the Asian sub-continent and also a part-time music teacher of Chittagong University, died of deadly disease in the small hours of Sunday at the age of 72.
Born in Keuchia village under Satkania upazila of the district in 1945, Mihir left behind his wife, a daughter, large number of disciples and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Mihir was cremated at city's Abhoy Mitra Crematory yesterday afternoon.
His music greatly inspired the freedom-loving people of Bangladesh in the refugee camps of India in 1971.
He won the state honour 'Shilpakola Award' for his outstanding contributions to music last year. During over five decades of his musical career, the late Mihir founded a musical institution named “Anandadhwani” in addition to building up huge number of students.
