The High Court will deliver its verdict any day on the appeal and death reference of Oishee Rahman, who was sentenced to death for killing her parents---police officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman -- in 2013.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain kept the death reference and appeal in the case waiting for verdict after concluding hearing, said Deputy Attorney General Jahirul Haque Jahir while talking to reporters yesterday.
Earlier, on April 10, the same bench of the HC recorded the statement of teenage murder convict Oishee Rahman, who was sentenced to death for killing her parents.
During the recording of her statement, the HC bench observed her mental condition by asking some questions at their chamber room where Oishee’s lawyer Shujit Chatterjee Bappi and Assistant Attorney General Atiqur Rahman Selim were present.
After coming out from the chamber room, Advocate Shujit Chatterjee Bappi, told reporters that the judges have interrogated Oishee in order to understanding her mental condition during the killing incidents.
The judges quizzed her for about fifteen minutes. Judges have asked some questions to Oishee and she replied, he added.
However, the lawyer refused to disclose the contents of the conversation.
Later, the HC judges asked the prison authorities to escort her to Kashimpur jail.
Earlier, in the morning police produced Oishee before the HC bench as per its previous directive.
On April 3, the HC bench asked to bring Oishee before the court following a petition of human rights activists that she was mentally unstable when she killed her parents.
The HC bench came up with the order following demand made by defence lawyers that she was mentally disordered when she killed her parents.
On March 12, the HC bench started the hearing on the death reference and appeal of Oishee challenging the lower court verdict that sentenced her to death for murdering her father Mahfuzur Rahman, inspector of Special Branch of Police, and mother Swapna Rahman on August 16, 2013. Earlier on November 12, 2015, a Dhaka court found Oishee guilty of killing her parents and sentenced her to death.
Later on December 6, the convict filed an appeal with the High Court seeking acquittal of the charges.
