A case was lodged against 22 officials of Grameenphone on charge of fraudulence in Chittagong yesterday.
H M Habibur Rahman Azad, a lawyer of Chittagong Judge Court, filed the case with Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid’s court.
The 22 accused include ex-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rajeev Sethi, former CEO Tore Johnsen, Head of Human Recourses Department and Director Sharif Ahmed, Technical specialist Ahmed Manjur ud-daula, Trustee Board Chairman (Finance) Kazi Md Shahed, member of Trustee Board Mainur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mainul Kader, Manjur ud-daula, and Head of External Communication Sayed Talat Kamal.
Taking the case into cognizance, the court ordered Officer-in-Charge (OC) of EPZ Police Station to investigate the allegation, said plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Sheik Iftekhar Saimon Chowdhury.
Habibur Rahman bought a special offer from Grameenphone of 40 GP-GP minutes on September 20, 2012. After buying the offer the operator gave him a confirmation message after deducting Tk11.50 from his account. However, latter he received a SMS (short messaging service) from the operator that the desired service would not possible to active but he did not get back the money. Then he informed the matter to Grameenphone but did not get any convincing answer.
“On March 18, 2012 to October 20, 2015 he lodged complaints three times with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) but all the attempts proved to be unproductive. Again he lodged a complaint with BTRC chairman on October 20, 2015 but the BTRC did not take any action,” said Iftekhar.
“So, the victim filed the case against them for the fraudulence,” said the plaintiff’s lawyer.
