Bangladesh government’s “zero tolerance” to terrorism was re-emphasised yet again by its Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in Delhi yesterday.
Speaking at the third Counter Terrorism Conference in India’s capital city, Khan reiterated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s declared stance against any sort of terrorism and violence extremism.
Bangladesh, Khan said will never allow its soil to be used as the launching ground for any kind of terrorist activities against any part of the globe, let alone our neighbours.
The three day conference, organised by India Foundation, was inaugurated by Hamid Ansari, vice president of India.
Referring to some recent acts of terrorism in Bangladesh the home minister said the situation was brought under control. He attributed this success to relentless effort by the law enforcing agencies and active cooperation of the Bangladeshi people. The home minister, however, regretted that despite stringent measures some home-grown groups have become radicalised. “In some cases, in connivance with a few radical political affiliations, are trying to de-stabilize the country and thus hindering the current rapid socio-economic development by acts of terror.
“We have also unveiled the unholy nexus between these groups and those who are against the trial of the anti- liberation war actors and perpetrators in the International Crime Tribunals,” he said. Asaduzzaman Khan said Bangladesh has a comprehensive plan for countering terrorism.
“Bangladesh follows a counter terrorism strategy based on 4 pillars: prevention, disruption, capacity building and upholding respect to human rights,” he said.
