State minister for Posts and Telecommunications, Tarana Halim, called for a meeting today regarding monitoring posts with offensive content on Facebook.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), AKM Shahidul Hoque, revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that Facebook authorities have turned down a request by the Bangladesh government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which includes provision that Facebook would seek additional identification, including NID numbers from Bangladeshis before allowing them to sign up at Facebook.
A day later state minister for posts and telecommunications has called for a meeting regarding the control of posting offensive content on Facebook.
When asked about the agenda of the meeting a senior official of Post and Telecommunication division told The Independent that the state minister is planning on talking to law enforcement agencies and the telecom sector organisations about the matter.
Today s meeting will mainly focus on monitoring the offensive Facebook content. The meeting is like to discuss co- ordination needed to do so, said a senior official of posts and telecommunication division “We are not receiving full fledged support from Facook authorities as expected.
