RCC to provide pro-poor healthcare services

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is committed to provide primary healthcare services to the poor and underprivileged communities for their welfare, reports BSS.
Importance was given on bringing all the pregnant mothers under the services of antenatal care, safe delivery and postnatal services for the sake of ensuring safe delivery and maternal and infant health.
Mayor-in-Charge of RCC Nizam-Ul Azim revealed this while inaugurating a daylong health related meeting of zonal coordination mechanism (cluster 3) of the corporation at a city restaurant here on Tuesday as chief guest.German agency for international development cooperation (GIZ) organized the meeting in association with its ABDC Project.
With RCC Ward Councilor Sultana Razia in the chair, GIZ Team Leader Emranul Haque, RCC Chief Health Officer Dr Anzuman Ara Begum, PSTC Project Manager Farjana Rahman and Medical Officer of city hospital Dr Monjusha Rahman also spoke.
Mayor Azim said there are 14 healthcare centres and two maternal clinics in the city at present providing maternal and child healthcare services.
The city corporation has taken initiative of providing more than 10,500 red cards among the poor and distressed families for extending maternal and child healthcare services free of cost, he added.
Earlier, around 19,000 poor and extremely poor families living in slums in the city were given health and nutritional support to combat malnutrition.
The nutrition scheme improved the nutritional status of children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and adolescent girls of the targeted households as the highest rate of malnutrition has been found among children living in slums of the city.
