Proceedings against Justice Fazlul Haque to continue

The High Court yesterday paved the way to continue proceedings of a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former adviser to the caretaker government Justice Fazlul Haque, as it rejected an appeal to quash the case, reports BSS.
“There is now no legal bar in continuing the proceedings of the case by the trial court,” said ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan. According to the case documents, the concerned trial court had framed charges against Justice Haque in the case on November 14, 2016. He later filed a writ petition, seeking quashing of the case. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder yesterday passed the order after holding hearing on the plea of the accused.
“The ACC had filed the case on April 13, 2008, against him for concealing information about the wealth worth around Taka 97 lakh. The graft body in its investigation found that he has accumulated wealth of Taka 1.80 crore in illegal ways. The trial court is now examining witnesses in the case,” advocate Khan said.
