Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint drive early yesterday detained three people along with 6,064 mobile SIMs (Subscriber Identity Module) from a home in Chittagong for using illegal VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).
The SIMs was seized from Taherabad Residential Area under Pnachlaish Police Station in Chittagong.
The two arrestees were identified as Md Amjad Hossain, 27, son of Delwar Hossain, and Md Tuhin, 18, and Farhad Md Tusher, 20 son of Zakir Hossain, all of them hailing from Fatickchhari upaizla of Chittagong.
Of them SIMs—2,998 SIMs were State-owned Teletalk, 1,414 were GrameenPhone, 782 were of Robi, 570 SIMs were of Airtel and 320 SIMs of Banglalink mobile operator companies, said a press release sent by RAB.
During the drive they seized different kinds of equipment including SIM port, laptop used for VOIP worth about Tk 40 lakh. A case was lodged in the connection with Panchlaish police station.
