The name of Zia Nagar upazila in Pirojpur has been reverted back to the original Indurkani, which was changed in 2002 during the BNP-led four-party alliance government. The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) at a meeting held yesterday has reverted to the name Indurkani upazila from Zia Nagar. The meeting was held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters that the NICAR members has reverted Indurkani upazila from Zia Nagar following demands from the local people.
“We have no information why the authorities concerned had changed the name of Indurkani upazila to Zia Nagar in 2002,” he said.
Meanwhile, the meeting has decided to establish Dohazari Union under Chittagong district, a new municipality, and Comilla’s Lalmai union to be made a new upazila. Lalmai would be the 491th upazila of the country with an area of 147.03 square kilometers and 22,032 inhabitants.
