Ekota Express and Drutajan Express- two intercity trains with new coaches started plying the route between Dhaka and Dinajpur using broad gauge rail track yesterday, reports UNB. Railways Minister Mujibul Haque inaugurated the train services at Kamalapur Railway Station, aiming to make the journey faster on Dhaka-Dinajpur route.
For the two train services, the government imported 50 broad gauge locomotives from Indonesia financed by the Asian Development Bank.
The government has taken various initiatives, including converting meter gauge rail tracks to duel gauge ones throughout the country, importing new engines and modern locomotives in a bid to improve the railway services, the minister said. Mentioning that some 46 projects of Bangladesh Railway are undergoing, the minister said once completed country’s people will experience unexpected development in the railway sector.
BR Director General M Amzad Hossain, among others, was present at Kamalapur Railway Station during the inauguration ceremony.
