Three iconic maestros to perform last night

Three iconic maestros from the classical music world—Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Kushal Das and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia—who are also main attractions of the fifth edition of Bengal Classical Music Festival 2016 will give their fascinating performance on the concluding day of the festival at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital tonight.
The name Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, to many aficionados of classical music, is synonymous with the santoor. He is credited for bringing the instrument from the realm of Kashmiri folk music into that of the Indian Classical platform, while facing resistance from most conservative quarters.
Kushal Das is a noted North-Indian sitar and surbahar artist. He was born into a family of musicians in Kolkata – his grandfather, Bimal Chandra Das, was a renowned esraj player and his father, Sailen Das, and uncle, Santanu Das, are also highly reputed sitar players. Das is a Guru at the Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay in Dhaka.
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is an internationally renowned exponent of the bansuri. Chaurasia is considered to be one of India’s most-respected classical musicians; earning him several prestigious awards and honours – which included the Padma Vibhushan, Sangeet Natak Academy Award and National Eminence, amongst many others.
