BTRC brings allegation against audit firm

The Grameenphone audit process is yet to get momentum as BTRC brought allegation of negligence against Toha Khan Zaman & Co which was entrusted to conduct the auditing of the telecom company.
Bangladesh Telecommu-nication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) held the audit firm responsible for lackluster move.
A high official of BTRC said, they heard, the  audit firm is not getting access to the Grameenphone’s office.  He raised a question why the audit firm did not file general diary.
Adequate evidence is needed to prove that the audit firm is being hindered to conduct auditing, he added.
However, there was no reply when contact was made to the BTRC entrusted Toha Khan Zaman & Co audit firm.
Earlier in October, 2015 BTRC appointed audit firm to realize due payment. However the appointed audit firm failed to access the Grameenphone office for the last 11 months.
Talking to the Independent BTRC Secretary Sarwar Alam said, they have given optimum importance to the issue. On the other hand, Grameenphone said, GP is always ready to facilitate the audit process.
In a letter issued by BTRC on April 4, it said, ‘as per the provisions of the telecom act 2001 commission has appointed Toha Khan Zaman and Co ( the Audit firm) through open, fair and transparent process so as to conduct the new audit of GP ina legal manner.
As a result there cannot be any lawful question from the end of an operator regarding the commission’s aforementioned effort’
GP is repeatedly sending letter to BTRC containing the same issue, which causes unnecessary lapse time delaying thecommence of the audit,’ letter added.
