Dhaka University Shamsunnahar Hall authorities and various students’ organisations of the university observed ‘Shamsunnahar Hall Tragedy Day’ on Saturday. On the occasion they demanded exemplary punishment for those who were involved in the assault on students of the hall on the day in 2002.
On that day, cops entered the hall at night, dragged the students out of the dormitory and abused them as they were protesting the illegal stay of some leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in the hall.
A day after the attack, the whole university protested the incident, forcing the then vice chancellor and proctor of the university to resign.
Teachers’ students and stuffs of the respective hall observed the day with lighting candles on the hall premises on Friday night.
Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra League, DU unit also lighted candles on the Central Shaheed Minar premises marking the day.
DU unit Chattra Union also held a torch light exhibition.
