At least five passengers of a human hauler were killed and eight others injured when a train collided head on with it at Pagla rail crossing in Narayangan yesterday.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
“When a Narayanganj bound train reached at Pagla station at around 11 pm, it collided with a passenger loaded pick up van, killing one on the spot,” said Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Fatulla model police station.
“After the fatal accident, police and locals rescued the injured and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). On duty doctors declared four of them, including a woman, died,” officer-in-charge of Railway Police Station Abdul Majid asserted.
The injured were undergoing treatment at DMCH and in Narayanganj, he added.
DMCH police box in-charge Inspector Mozammel Hossain said, “None of them were identified yet but aged between 35 to 40 years. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue.”
