There is no physical attack on Sudhir Gautam, one of the most visible Indian cricket fans and an ardent supporter of Sachin Tendulkar, says Nisarul Arefin, DC of Mirpur Police.
“Sudhir Gautam left the stadium while the supporters of Bangladesh team were in jubilant mood after the historic ODI series win against mighty India. There were some oral sledging around him,” said Nisarul Arefin.
“Police surrounding him came forward to help him and hired an auto-rickshaw for his destination (hotel),” he added.
Sudhir while talking to Independent TV said that a number of Bangladesh crowds mobbed him and tried to push him. But he ran away to take shelter nearby a saloon. “Soon two policemen came to the spot and hired an auto-rickshaw for me and sent to my destination,” said Sudhir.
“The crowd chased the auto-rickshaw and pelted stones. However, no one can physically hurt me,” stated Sudhir to TV reporter. Despite that fact that a section of Indian media reported that Sudhir was attacked by Bangladesh crowd after the match.
He further stated that those people snatching the Tricolour, breaking the handle of the flag.
The reason for the attack is still not known but a report in Zee News claims that the fan attacked him to avenge Bangladesh’s loss in the World Cup quarter-final.
Bangladesh defeated India on Sunday in the second successive ODI match to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in 3-match series.
