A faction of pro-Awami League teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) confined� Vice-chancellor Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan at his office for seven hours� yesterday demanding his resignation.
The teachers under the banner of �Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad� locked the main entrance of the VC�s office around 8:30am and started to observe a sit-in programme. The sit-in continued till at 4pm following a rally.
Source said, Vice-chancellor Aminul Haque returned after a two-month leave on Monday at 8:30 am to join office. Hearing the news, the agitated teachers, those who undergoing movement, demanding his removal since last week, rushed in front of his office and started sit-in locking the main entrance. They unlocked the gate and withdrew their sit-in at 4pm as official time was over. But they announced to continue the programme until the VC resigned from his post.
On the other hand, another faction of AL teachers called �Mohan Muktijuddher Chetona o Mukto Chinta Chorchai Oikyabadda Shikkhak Parishad� met with VC at his office at 4:30pm and assured him to help to run the campus.
They expressed deep concern for confining VC including others teachers and officials at office in a press statement. Even they ready to take any action to keep the university activities stable.
At the meantime, the leader and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League also met VC at his office. They condemned and protested the programme against VC.
However, VC gave an appointment to four posts including proctor and 3 Assistant Proctors from second faction named �Mohan Muktijuddher Chetona o Mukto Chinta Chorchai Oikyabadda Shikkhak Parishad�.
It is mentionable that, VC went on two-month leave on 23 April showing his personal cause following the movement of the teachers in demand of his resignation.
