All these police personnel were directly helping several smuggling syndicates of the northern areas of the country.

According to the report, ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the smugglers and their "friends" have become desperate to smuggle in arms, ammunition, drugs and essential commodities from India. They are bringing in the contraband through various border points of the six districts and using Birampur, Phoolbari, Shantahar, Natore, Iswardy and Hilli railway stations for supplying the smuggled goods. This has resulted in deterioration of law and order and also affected the social life of the areas.
The smugglers are using trains like Titumir, Borendra, Uttara, Shimanto, Rupsha, Neelshagar, Drutojan and Teesta for carrying the smuggled goods to different places from the districts.
Of the 133 people identified as smugglers, 79 are from Dinajpur districts, including 32 policemen of Parbotipur GRP thana, 15 from Joypurhat, nine from Natore, 10 from Bogra, 16 from Nilphamari and four from Pabna.
Of the 79 people in Dinajpur districts, five were identified as "agents" of Indian smugglers for contraband like arms, ammunition and drugs. They are Md Manjur Alam, father of Makbul Hossain of South Bashudevpur village in the Hakimpur thana area, Md Shariful,

In the report, the agencies also mentioned the names and addresses of these people so that they can be arrested them as soon as possible.
The report recommended deployment of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at the border points for conducting special drives in and around the railways stations and the trains frequently to arrest the culprits.
The report also advised the ministry to ask the authorities concerned to take action against the policemen involved in the smuggling.
State minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told The Independent that they have already asked the law enforcement agencies and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to take steps to stop smuggling.
“If found guilty for smuggling, action will be taken against them,” he said.
A senior official of the home ministry told this correspondent that ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, they have asked field administrators, such as divisional and deputy commissioners (DCs), to launch special drives by mobile courts in all the 33 border districts to control smuggling of Bangladeshi goods to India and Myanmar.
According to sources, arms, ammunition, drugs, sugar and spices were being smuggled from India, while at least 50 categories of Bangladeshi goods are being sent to India daily. These include edible oil, diesel, fertilisers, fabrics, contraceptives, DVD discs, mobile handsets, vegetable seeds, fish feed, fish varieties, including hilsa, raw hides, insecticides, jute, cycles, quilts, jerrycans, saris, water pumps, cow hair, potatoes, varieties of plants, cement, glassware, melamine products, snacks, such as chanachur, rubber, testing salt, plastic products and  Akij bidi.
