Fast-bowling coach Heath Streak termed Bangladesh as consistent performing team and said that the way they have consistently been performing at home and away conditions since Zimbabwe series it is possible for them to make the result of the ODI series three-nil.
“It wasn’t surprising. Since the WC we have seen a different Tigers’ team. They are confident and now believing that they can win more consistently. They have shown some really good fight in this series. They are not just happy to win one game but the series as well, and 3-0 if possible,” said Heath Streak.
He praised Mustafizur Rahman -the new pace sensation of Tigers’ fort- while he talked to media yesterday.
He said that he was impressed with the left-arm pace bowler after he arrived in Bangladesh last year.
“I saw Mustafiz when I first came last year. He was going to tour West Indies with the Team-A. Even then I was very impressed with him. We have been trying to keep him stay within the system. Now with the HP structure, all these fringe players will get the support they needed,” Heath Streak said.
“Mustafiz has been bowling well. We fought hard to get him into the T20 squad against Pakistan and he showed what he is capable of,” Streak told media in front of the team’s hotel yesterday.
“I’m very happy. Obviously Mustafiz was outstanding. To do that in two games and get a record like that was something special,” he added.
Former Zimbabwean fast-bowler said that they should take care of this rare pacer considering his future prospect.
“He is still very young. We have to be careful. He has taken 11 wickets but we can’t expect him to take five wickets every time. He has shown his potential. If we look after him and support him, he will be a big match-winner for us,” he thinks.
“We’re working in the nets. For me, he has to execute it more regularly and consistently. When you are training with the guys on a regular basis, you can make their skills better. There’s no magic trick and making sure they are training at a high level for a long period of time.”
The fast bowler, who was one of the 10-ranked fast-bowlers in ICC rankings in his time, said that they have a pipeline of fast-bowlers who will represent Mashrafe and Rubel after their retirement.
“Lots of young bowlers are coming through like Abul Hasan, Subashis Roy and Shahid. All of them need to be supported. BCB has got the HP started again and hopefully that can carry on. When Rubel and Mashrafe are retiring, we have the next group coming through,” Heath opines.
Depicting Mashrafe as a consistent performer, the fast-bowling coach said that they could prepare the surface in the line of fast bowling then the domination will be in their hand.
“Mashrafe has been a consistent performer for Bangladesh for a long time now. We have a good group and we felt India wouldn’t expect that. We knew that conditions, if we can prepare the wickets to suit our style of bowling, would play into our hands,” Zimbabwean fast-bowler hopes.
Heath Streak said that he is not surprised at their performance as they have been working hard since Zimbabwe series not being complacent.
“Since the Zimbabwe series and the World Cup, we have seen this team grow from strength to strength, the coach said, adding, “I don’t see them becoming complacent any more. Certainly from the coaching staff, we won’t allow that from happening. They’re hungry for more success. They’re enjoying the victories and proud to represent Bangladesh.”
