Former Barisal lawmaker Hiron remembered

The second death anniversary of former lawmaker of Barisal-5 (Sadar) constituency Shawkat Hossain Hiron was observed in the city yesterday. Leaders and supporter as well as the admirers of Hiron, a former mayor of Barisal City Corporation, and president of Barisal city Awami League, offered prayer at his graveyard at Barisal Muslim Garastan in the morning.
Barisal City And district Awami League and its front organisations, different ward and upazila committee, Barisal City Corporation and other socio-culture organisations arranged different programme including milad, dua mahfil, commemorative meeting, discussion on the life of Hiron. City Awami League brought out a mourning procession from Public square and paraded almost main road of he city.  A milad mahfil was also held at the residence of Hiron in Alekanda area of the city.
As AL-backed candidate Hiron became Barisal City Corporation mayor on August 4, 2008, but was defeated in last BCC election of June 15, 2013. He was elected as uncontested AL lawmaker from Barisal-5 (Sadar) on January 5, 2014.
Shawkat Hossain Hiron died at Apollo Hospitals in the capital on April 9, 2014 at the age of 58. Hiron joined Awami League with his JP followers through the then Barisal district AL secretary Abul Hasanat Abdullah in 1997 and became Barisal city AL convener in 2003 and president in 2012.
