Stocks break 5-day losing streak

BSS

Stock market showed little recovery yesterday, breaking the losing streak that continued in the past five consecutive trading sessions, reports BSS.
The day’s session began in choppy trading that resulted in slight fall in the daily trade value. All major indices, however, finally managed to finish flat in green on relatively active transaction around pharmaceutical and consumer’s stocks.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recovered by 9.22 points to close the day at 4311.80, with blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES following it to finish the day at 1631.73 and 1046.07 respectively.
On Monday, the broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) lost over 53 points or 1.22 per cent to come down to 11 months low at 4302.57, with blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES following it to finish the day at 1630.82 and 1044.96 respectively.
CSCX, the major index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also rebounded by over 20 points to finish the day at 8077.96.
The trade value at DSE rose marginally to Tk 303.30 crore, but the volume fell to 8.58 crore shares due to weak demand.
On CSE, a total of 72.15 lakh shares worth over Tk 20 crore changed hands on the day when 100 securities closed higher against 91 losing issues. The number of advancing issues on DSE also rose to 140 against 79 lagging scrips.
“There were a couple of noteworthy economic releases today which grabbed the eyes of market players. Specifi-cally, the government’s decision to reduce the price of furnace oil relating to global price level”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited while attributing the rebound to some recent news.
All the major sectors including bank, cement, fuel & power and textile advanced. Telecom and pharmaceuticals were the major losing sectors.
The major gainers were Orion Infusion, Kohinoor, Sonali Ansh, Northern Jute and NTC when the major losers included Shympur Sugar, DSSL, Ruplai Insurance, Eastern Insurance and United Insurance.
Square Pharma topped the turnover list followed by Orion Infusion, BSRM Limited, Aman Feed and Emerald Oil.
