Bangladesh bowling coach Heath Streak was optimistic that they would fix the problem of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed before the team plays another international series.
According to him, Taskin could go for the next bowling test within one month to six weeks. What would give Taskin advantage is that he could bowl in the domestic circuit with modified bowling action as the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) is slated to be held in the second week of April.
Streak said the bowling in competitive cricket would give him an idea as to how his new bowling action will be worked.
“We haven’t got any international cricket, we don’t have any pressure (to get him back immediately). I think within one month to six weeks we can get his test, we just need to be hundred percent before we send him to get reinstated. I don’t think it’s a major problem for us,” said Streak who would work with Gujarat Lions during this IPL as a bowling coach.
Streak will leave the country on April 1 to join his IPL side but he had already devised a work plan for Taskin. Local coach Mahbub Ali Zaki will work with Taskin in the light of Streak’s guideline to get his action right.
“I think within a month is good, but he is going to be playing DPL, hopefully he will get comfortable with some of the modifications. When he is comfortable he will go,” Streak added.
The former Zimbabwe captain Streak however reiterated that he found no major changes in Taskin’s action since he took the charge.
“His action in my opinion never changed from when I first came and started working with him up to now. We never really had any reason to suspect so even I was surprised (after ICC raised concern),” he said.
“All his Yorkers, length deliveries  and most of his bouncers, only three out of his nine bouncers was over the limit. In fact all his quick bouncers were within the legal limit. It was actually his slower ones what maybe a little bit concerned with the programme and the fatigue that may cause a problem (during the test). I don’t think it’s a big problem for us to fix, I am confident we can get him back to play,” Streak, the former bowling spearhead of Zimbabwe explained.
“When he comes, he comes pretty high so getting his arm to extend a bit quicker so that when he gets to the horizontal it’s a hundred percent straight. The legal limit is very small margin. I don’t think most of his deliveries had problems. He bowled something like 40 deliveries with the bouncers so it’s not a big problem and it’s something that you can remedy very quickly,” Streak remained optimistic.
Despite not being pleased with the test, Streak didn’t support the idea of sending Taskin another place to have his retest.
“It doesn’t matter. All the labs has exactly the same technology, whether its Chennai, Cape Town or Australia ...the technology is the same.”
Streak said: “I think its not just in Bangladesh its around the globe. It’s coming to a time now where I think that if someone’s got a suspect action because of the facilities there they should be sent automatically just to get fixed and cleared. Taskin and Sunny are not the first ones, there are lots of people with suspect actions, there are lot of facilities the players who might play, they should get checked. With the naked eye, it’s hard for the umpires to tell as well.”
Streak however was happy with the fast bowlers despite Bangladesh made exit from the World T20 with four straight defeats in the super 10 stage.
“I was happy with the fast bowlers. We missed Mustafiz in the first game against Pakistan that would have made a difference for us but as a team collectively we are disappointing. We had a chance against India. We had a chance against Australia bit it was a tough total behind, but after the India loss it looked like the team didn’t recover completely for the next game. We had some chances, but little bit disappointed we could have come with some upsets.”
