Pharma Fest 2016 at NSU held        
The Pharmaceutical Club of North South University (NSU) organised an annual event titled ‘Pharma Fest’ in the plaza area of the university on Monday, says a press release.
The festival was held for the fifth time and the theme of this year was ‘Get Solution, Not Just Medication’- to signify the duties of any medical healthcare practitioner.
This event has brought together all aspect of medical healthcare and healthy lifestyle closer to the public. Pharma Fest 2016 began with an inspirational inaugural speech from the chief guest Major General Md Mustafizur Rahman, director general, Directorate General of Drug Administration. Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor, NSU, addressed the audience as a special guest while Dr Momenul Haq, managing director, General Pharmaceuticals Ltd was the guest of honour.  The event was featured with an exhibition by pharmaceutical and lifestyle companies along with the students and their projects, a Pharma Olympiad and Poster Exhibition. The event was ended with a cultural evening, which consisted of music, drama, a fashion show titled ‘The Pharma Walk’.

UGC, Macquarie University, Australia sign MoU
University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) and Macquarie University of Sydney, Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic, research and governance cooperation programmes yesterday, says a press release.
Md Khaled, secretary, UGC and Tim Beresford, deputy vice-chancellor, Macquarie University, on behalf of their institutions signed the MoU. The MoU will come into force immediately and will remain valid until March 31, 2021 and shall be eligible for further renewal for successive terms.
Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman, UGC, Anthony Khouri Oam, honorary consul of Bangladesh in Sydney,  Professor Md Yousuf Ali Mollah, member, UGC, Dr Sherman Young, pro vice-chancellor of Macquarie University, Dr Nicole Brig, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, Macquarie University, Professor Rafiqul Islam of Law School, Tanveer Shaheed, senior country manager (South Asia), Macquarie International,   Md Khaled Secretary, UGC and Dr Fakhrul Islam, Jt Secretary, UGC,  were present during the signing ceremony.

Workshop on climate change at EWU
East West University Centre for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organised a workshop on ‘mainstreaming gender in international and national climate change policy and programme’ on EWU campus at Aftabnagar in the capital on Monday, says a press release.
The workshop was held in collaboration with ‘UGC/World Bank funded sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff, that focused on an in-depth analysis of gender-climate interrelation that can better inform climate policy in Bangladesh.  Christine Hunter, country representative, UN Women Bangladesh was the chief guest of the workshop. Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, was the special guest and MM Shahidul Hassan, vice chancellor, EWU, was the guest of honour. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, chairperson, EWU-CRT, Chaired the programme. The key note speakers were Farah Kabir, director, Action Aid Bangladesh and Dilruba Haider, coordinator, Gender and Climate Change, UN Women. The workshop was participated by a galaxy of experts in the field, high government officials, and representatives of national and international development agencies.

Eastern University holds discussion meeting
Eastern University (EU) organized a discussion at the EU Seminar Hall in the capital yesterday in observance of Independence Day.
Freedom Fighter, Member of Crack Platoon (Commandos’ Group) Habibul Alam, Bir Protik was the chief guest. The programme was chaired by Abdur Rab, vice chancellor of EU while SM Bakhtiar Alam, former chairman, Board of Trustees, EU, was present in the programme as the special guests.  At the event Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, pro vice chancellor of EU; Maj Gen Kazi Ashfaq Ahmed (retd), registrar; deans; chairs; faculty members and officials along with a large number of students were present.
