Domestic Help Rights Networks at a human chain in the capital yesterday demanded the fair investigation and exemplary punishment to the killer of domestic help Jannat Akter Shilpi.
While addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club, Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra General Secretary Wajedul Islam Khan demanded the neutral investigation and punishment who were behind the tragic death.
Nagarik Udyog chief executive Zakir Hossain, Domestic Help Rights Activists Coordinator Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, among others, addressed the protest rally. They also urged the government to implement the newly enacted Domestic Help Protection and Welfare Policy -2015 immediately. The speakers also demanded to the government for providing legal supports in the case against the oppressors and compensation to the victims and their family members.  Jannat Akter Shilpi, a domestic help of singer Krishnakali’s house, was found hanging in a room of her Taltola Mollapara residence on Wednesday. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead. Duty officer of DMCH police camp detained Orko and then informed Sher-e-Banglanagar police. A general diary was registered with the police station in this connection. He was shown arrested under Section 54. A court on Sunday sent singer Krishnakali’s husband M Khaliqur Rahman Orko to judicial custody in connection with the death of their domestic help at their Taltola residence in Dhaka, reports UNB.  Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar Gui passed the order when sub-inspector of Sher-e-Banglanagar police Shushil Chandra Barman produced him before the court on expiry of his two-day remand period. Earlier, the SI also filed a petition to the court for keeping the accused in jail as they did not get the post-mortem report.
The court also rejected the bail plea filed by Orko’s lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua.
