Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jagannath University (JnU) unit were injured in a series of factional clashes over previous enmity on the campus yesterday.
The clash took place between the followers of Harunur Rashid, joint-secretary of JnU unit BCL, and Jahirul Islam Agun, organising secretary of the unit.
Among the injured, Md Ratul of English department, was seriously injured and was taken to Dhaka National Medical College Hospital. The other was Mehedi Hasan of Drama department was given primary treatment at JnU medical centre.
According to eye witnesses, the clash erupted between the two groups over previous enmity which turned later establishing supremacy on the campus. Shuvo, Ratul along with their followers (Agun’s group) involved in arguments over sitting on a bus the previous day and beat up Himu (Harun’s group) mercilessly.
Later, Arafat, Sharif along with their followers (Harun’s group) attacked their opponent around 12pm that led a series of clashes between the groups.
Kotwali Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan said on information police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
To avert the further unwanted incident, additional police have been deployed on the campus.
However, the university unit BCL President FM Shoriful Islam Islam claimed that BCL has no connection with the clash, he said.
JnU proctor Dr Noor Muhammad said, “The university authorities will take stern action against the accused after investigation”.
