Unidentified thieves stole some important documents and cash after breaking open the lockers of the National Press Club in the city on Saturday night.
The incident occurred at a time when two groups of journalists are at loggerheads over the formation of a committee. However, it could not be confirmed how much money was missing.
Inspector Abdul Momem of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and CID Inspector Raihan visited the spot. Night guard Abdul Malek who was on duty during the incident was detained for interrogation.
Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, General Secretary of the newly formed committee, said they are yet to file any case in this connection.
