Jamal Uddin, a special correspondent of the Daily Ittefaq, and Razu Ahmed, Chief Reporter of Gazi TV, were respectively elected president and general secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in an annual election held to the journalists’ body yesterday. Chairman to the election committee, Daily Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar, announced the polls results around 9pm. The voting began at 9am at Sagor-Rumi Auditorium of the DRU in the capital and continued until 5pm amid a festive mood. Sheikh Jamal of the daily Inqilab was elected the organising secretary. Other post bearers, who were elected unopposed, are Shariful Islam of the Daily Janakantha (vice president), Sumi Khan of Daily Janakantha (woman affairs secretary), Kafi Kamal of the daily Manabzamin (publicity and publications secretary), Monirul Islam of Notunsomoy.com (cultural affairs secretary), Aminul Haque Bhuiyan of Nabachetona (hospitality affairs secretary), Zilani Milton of Naya Diganta (welfare secretary), and Mujibur Rahman (sports secretary).
