Senior Judicial Magistrate Qudrat-e-Elahi yesterday sent the prime accused in the Rangunia rape incident Shah Alam to jail after he was produced in court by the DB police following a three-day remand.
The DB police produced the accused in court at around 2:15 pm yesterday with a forwarding stating that Shah Alam was an influential person and that he could influence the investigation into the incident if he was allowed to go free on bail. The report signed by S M Badiuzzaman, Inspector of DB police, mentioned: “We interrogated Shah Alam regarding the incidents and he provided us a lot of information which is being verified for the sake of investigation.”
The report, however, did not divulge the nature of information the police got from the accused.
“The accused and the plaintiff are residents of the same locality. The accused (Shah Alam) is an influential person. The plaintiff and the victim are helpless and poor. As they left the locality out of fear, we could not interrogate them.” the report added.
“As the accused is an influential person if he came out from jail on bail, before completing investigation, the investigation will be hampered; recording deposition and justice will be hampered too,” the report said.
The DB police further noted in the report that they would apply to court for another remand of the accused for further investigation.
