Seven people, including three doctors, were arrested in Rangpur yesterday for their alleged involvement in leaking question papers of medical entry tests.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 led by its acting commander Major Ashraf arrested the seven from Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) premises and other spots of the city.
Sources at the RAB said the question papers for the MBBS and BDS entry tests reached Rangpur well ahead of the schedule date for the examination and was kept at the house of a local influential person.
Major Ashraf, acting commander of RAB-13 (Rangpur), led the operation and detained three doctors, three teachers and a director of the local franchisee of Primate Coaching Centre.
The doctors were identified as Dr. Shariful Islam Nantu, Dr. Zillur Rahman Rony, and Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Pavel—all posted at the RMCH. Of the rest, Manzur Rahman is the director of the coaching while Atiqur Rahman, Jamiluddin, and Sajratul Lakkin Rana teach at the coaching centre.
When contacted, one of the owners of the coaching centre said they have many franchisees outside Dhaka, and these franchisees operate independently.
“As per the agreement, we only provide these franchisees with course materials,” he said. “If any franchisee gets involved with any irregularity, it has to shoulder the responsibility, not the owners,” he added.
About the alleged MBBS and BDS question paper leaks, he said they welcome any move by the authorities in this regard.
