Three days after they were closed to the district police lines, six policemen of Pirganj police station were suspended on Monday over extortion charges. Superintendent of Police of Thakurgoan Farhat Ahmed took the action against sub-inspectors Nur Alam and Mamun, and constables Geof Ahmed, Abdul Jalil, Sohagh and Monoranjan. Police said locals caught the policemen while they were taking tolls from a motorcyclist at Gogarhat on Pirganj-Ranishankail road in Ranishankail on September 17. The angry mob assaulted them before informing the police station. Officers-in-charge of Ranishankail and Pirganj police stations Shukumar Mohanta and KM Shawkat Ali respectively rushed in and rescued them.
