Naogaon: A former union parishad member was stabbed to death by his rivals over enmity at Gayeshpur village in Badalgachhi upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Jewel Hossain, a resident of the village.
Quoting locals, police said Anwar Hossain,35, of the village, stabbed Jewel indiscriminately with a sharp weapon while he was retuning home at about 9:30 pm, leaving him severely injured.
Later, local people rescued Jewel and took him to Joypurhat Sadar Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead.
Local people also caught Anwar and handed over him to police after giving him a good beating.
Later, Anwar was admitted to Badalgachhi upazila health complex under police custody.
Officer-in-charge of Badalgachhi police station Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident.
A case was filed in this connection.
