Walton became the title sponsor of the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Australia. The co-sponsor of the series is Marcel and thereby the series will be named as Walton Test series Bangladesh-Australia, powered by Marcel.
Even though Walton has been involved in cricket closely, they came back to be the title sponsor of any international series in Bangladesh after four years. They have last sponsored the Bangladesh-West Indies series in 2011.
A press conference was held in this connection yesterday in which high ups of Walton —executive director Zahid Hasan and operative director Udoy Hakim were present alongside Rabeed Imam, senior manager BCB media and communications, Axiom Technologies managing director Rizwan Bin Farooq and additional director of Marcel Motiur Rahman.
Walton bought the sponsorship from Axiom Technologies who earned the rights to sell the all BCB organised series for two years. It is learnt they sold the title sponsorship at the cost of an amount of Tk. 1.40 crore approximately to Walton.
“We want to thank the Walton for their move to sponsor the Test series which got little attention in worldwide. But in Bangladesh we saw the wave of spectators in the past even in Test series. Cricket is like oxygen in our country. Still it is a risky move to sponsor any Test series. But Walton came forward, showing their love and commitment towards cricket, which is pleasant to see,” said Rabeed Imam.
