Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna ripped through Bangladesh-A batting line up, claiming a five-for on his first class debut that kept Ranji trophy champions Karnataka aloft over the visitors on the day one of the first three-dayer match at Mysore yesterday.
His finished with five for 49 including a first-ball wicket as Bangladesh A were bowled out for 158 runs with only three batsmen reaching the double digit figure. Even though Bangladesh-A bowlers bowled well, Karnataka had already earned a lead of five runs after ending the day on 163 for six.
Left arm spinner Saqlain Sajib and off-spinner Shuvagata Hom snapped up three wickets apiece to deny the Karnataka’s outright control over the game. Shishir Bhavane and Jagadeesha Suchit were batting on 55 and 14 runs respectively after adding an unbeaten 63 runs for the seventh wicket and will be key in determining the course of the match in Karnataka’s favour.
They ensured the side’s lead indeed when the Karnataka was reeling on miserable 100 for six as Bangladeshi bowlers refused to knuckle down despite having a limited total on the board.
Sajib conceded 48 runs to scalp three while Hom gave away just 29 runs in his 16 overs to haul three.
Hom also was key in taking the side’s score past 150 after Bangladesh were left in meager 41 for five with the batsmen showing impatience in dealing with the fast bowler Prasidh Krishna.
His 39 runs with No. 10 batsman Saqlain Sajib was the highest partnership of the team’s innings after which he was dismissed with 55 off 65, clubbing seven fours and one six.
He made another significant 35-run partnership with Liton Das for the sixth wicket. Das played in one-day style, making a run-a-ball 50 with 11 boundaries.
Liton came at the moment when Rony Talukdar (0) was removed on the first ball delivered by Krishna on his debut. He then saw skipper Mominul Haque (1) being out with the scoreboard reading just one for two. Liton’s counterattack ticked the scoreboard rapidly but Anamul Haque Bijoy (5), Soumya Sarkar (0) and Nasir Hossain (8) fell without any resistance.
At one phase, the prospect to be all out below hundred in just a single session was raised but Shuvagata Hom came up with much-needed resistance to help the side rescue from ultimate shamble. Saqlain Sajib who scored an unbeaten 15 runs was the other batsman apart from Hom and Liton to reach double figure.
Bangladesh A however was bowled out shortly after the lunch and thus raised the prospect of a result in the three-dayer match.
