Major General Md. Shafeenul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board, was appointed the Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday. He will replace Major General Abul Hossain as the chief of the paramilitary force. Born on March 2, 1966 in Joypurhat district, Major General Md. Shafeenul Islam joined the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) on June 25, 1984 and was commissioned on June 27, 1986 in the Corps of Infantry. During his career, Major General Shafeenul has attended several professional courses, both at home and abroad. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and has obtained his Masters in Defence Studies from the National University. Major General Shafeenul takes keen interest in travelling, hunting and golfing. He is married to Shoma Islam and they have a daughter and a son.
