The production of the state-owned Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Factory Ltd (CUFL) resumed yesterday after two and a half year, reports BSS.
Production at the fertilizer factory began following Karnaphulli Gas Distribution Company Limited supplied 47.72 million cubic feet gas to the CUFL against the demand of 50 million cubic feet on Wednesday, said officials of the factory.
The factory was shut down after its reactor and Cooling Towers of Ammonia Plant were damaged on January 31, 2015.
The government has recently repaired the reactor at a cost of Tk 19 crore and the plant at a cost of Tk 21 crore.
CUFL, a sister organisation of Bangladesh Chemicals and Industries Corporation, was established at Anwara upazila in 1987.
With about 1,000 employs, the factory produces 450,000 tonnes of urea yearly.
Abu Taher Bhuiyan, managing director of the CUFL, expressed hope that the production capacity of the factory would increase in future.
